A clock spring, also called a power spring or spiral spring, is a flat metal strip wound in a spiral to store rotational energy, providing controlled torque for retraction, retrieval, or powering devices in a compact space, famously in watches, but also in cars for airbag/horn connections and in various mechanical systems needing smooth, circular motion. It works by winding around an arbor (center shaft) and uncoiling, releasing energy, with its core function being to allow continuous electrical connection (like in steering wheels) while the wheel turns.
