Core-shell quantum dots (CSQDs) are semiconductor nanoparticles with a core of one material surrounded by a shell of another, designed to boost the performance of standard quantum dots (QDs) by passivating surface defects, enhancing stability, and improving light emission (photoluminescence) for applications like LEDs, solar cells, and bioimaging. The shell, typically a wider bandgap material like ZnS around a CdSe core (e.g., CdSe/ZnS), confines excited electrons in the core, leading to brighter, more stable fluorescence and tunable colors.
