A medical drug-releasing micropump is a tiny infusion device that enables precise, controllable, and continuous drug release. It is primarily manufactured using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology or osmotic pressure principles. Small in size and highly precise, it is widely used in diabetes treatment (e.g., insulin pumps), drug research (animal models), postoperative analgesia (patient-controlled analgesia pumps), and microfluidic chips, replacing traditional infusion methods and providing more personalized and precise drug delivery regimens.


Its materials typically consist of drug contact end + structural components + electromechanical components + packaging and sterilization: the drug contact end often uses medical-grade polymers (PP/PE, PC, COC/COP, PEEK, PPSU, PTFE, etc.) and elastomers (silicone, TPU) for the drug cartridge, tubing, valve diaphragm, and seal; 316L stainless steel is used when necessary. Stainless steel/titanium alloys are used for needle hubs, micro-valve components, or implantable housings. Piezoelectric/electromagnetic micropumps utilize piezoelectric ceramics, copper coils, and magnetic materials. The electromechanical components include PCBs, MCUs, driver chips, sensors, connectors, and batteries (button/lithium batteries), plus adhesives, coatings, and sterile barrier packaging. Costs generally follow this pattern: for reusable mainframes, the bulk of the cost lies in precision electromechanical and control (drive mechanism/micropump, sensor, PCB, battery) + calibration and testing (metrological accuracy, leakage/back pressure, alarm safety) + clean assembly and quality system; while for disposable consumables/medicine boxes/tubing, the bulk of the cost lies in medical materials and molding (injection molding/extrusion) + key small components such as valves and needles + sterilization and packaging + yield and scrap, and these are often the core of ongoing costs/gross profit in business models. For implantable devices, the costs also significantly increase due to the hermetic sealing of titanium shells/ceramic feedthroughs, long-term power supplies, and reliability verification.
