In practice, transition-metal dopants such as vanadium are used to compensate residual nitrogen, and the seed is processed through slicing, lapping, polishing/CMP, and orientation control (on-axis/off-axis) to meet growth and device requirements.

Downstream, the SI-SiC seed crystal is loaded into PVT/seeded-sublimation (or related high-temperature growth) furnaces to grow semi-insulating SiC boules, which are then converted into semi-insulating substrates. These substrates are widely used as the platform for GaN-on-SiC RF power amplifiers and other RF/microwave devices, serving telecom as well as aerospace/defense applications.
