Mesoporous materials are a class of materials that have pores with diameters typically in the range of 2 to 50 nanometers (nm), which is between microporous (less than 2 nm) and macroporous (greater than 50 nm) materials. The term meso- comes from the Greek word mesos, meaning middle, indicating their intermediate pore size compared to microporous and macroporous materials.
